Cotter Force commission

Here is a recent commission I completed a few days ago. Ok, so it isn't actually Cotter Force (just west of Hawes), but it's just up from there. There was certainly a bit of detail to get through in this one!!

Size approx 14.5" x 9"

This is breathtaking! I am wondering how long did it this wonderful piece of scenery took you.

Thanks all for your comments.

Hi Clive/Alex, this probably ended up at around 50 hours in total. I worked on it quite a bit at last weekend's fair. Luckily, I find rocks and water relatively quick to do, otherwise this could have easily edged up towards the 100 hour mark of some other pieces!

Beautiful landscape, Mr Stacey..so peaceful. I love your work! Do you ever get comments like "Do you do work in color?" I do work in graphite and black colored pencil and "in my mind" I say to myself... "it would look better in color by most people". I then get discouraged.
Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks Debbie,
I only work in graphite and do get asked, a lot, whether I work in colour also. When I answer 'no', the reaction is often something like 'they work better in black and white anyway'.
Working in graphite allows you to concentrate on tone and texture to create realism (if that is what you strive for), separation, and composition, rather than letting colour do the job for you. That's what I tell people if they ask anyway!!

Thank you so much for your reply, Mr. Stacey. Now I will know what to say if someone asks do you do draw in color? :)

When I try to paint I find I get frustrated because it is almost impossible to get the detail I can get with drawing.

Always look forward to your posts!
